When it comes to making the maxi skirt an everyday piece the key is knowing what to wear it with. If you own a pair of converse or white leather sneakers then you’re half way there. Dressing down a maxi skirt makes it far more versatile – styling it with sneakers or trainers will avoid that overdressed feeling you sometimes get when wearing a skirt. This means that you’ll find yourself wearing it time and time again.
If you want your sneakers to be a feature then opt for a skirt with a side split or one that just skims your ankles – this way your footwear will definitely be seen!
To finish the outfit off simply take a basic tee, sweat or plain white shirt …. and your favourite denim jacket (if it’s a touch on the chilly side!). If you’re wearing a tee or blouse remember to tuck it in or pinch it in with a belt … or wear a slightly shorter top so your waist is defined – it will give a more flattering appearance.
You’ll find me wearing sneakers with maxi skirts and dresses whenever and wherever I can – it’s all about feeling comfortable in what I’m wearing whilst getting the most out of the things I buy!
You can go all out in terms of pattern and print when it comes to a maxi – by pairing it with simpler items the overall look is not overwhelming. Florals and stripes remain very much on trend so opting for a full-on pattern means your accessories can be simple – let your skirt do the talking!

When it comes to sneakers you can pay a little or a lot …. I’m a big fan of Converse Chuck Taylor Allstars and have also recently invested in some Golden Goose, which although expensive, will last and I’ve definitely had my wear out of them so far! I’ve pulled together a selection which vary in price but will definitely achieve that stylish look we’re all after!
