The denim jacket edit ….

With Spring hopefully not too far away we can start to put some of our bulkier and warmer winter coats away …. fingers crossed!

With that in mind it’s time to start thinking what jacket or coat will take their place. Blazers are definitely an option and again I’ve built up quite a collection of these due to their versatility and usefulness at this time of the year. The denim jacket is a great alternative though ….

Well worn, well loved and well travelled best describes my collection of denim jackets …. I say collection because one is never enough. A bit like all the white frilly blouses hanging in my wardrobe, each one is different in its own special way! Whether it’s the fit, the wash, the collar (or absence of collar) I know that each jacket deserves to be there … and when going on holiday I’ll never leave home without one!

The denim jacket has been a staple of my wardrobe for as long as I can remember. Accompanying me through my teenage years, through University and now into my 40’s I have never been without one. I’m not saying it’s the same jacket (I wish i’d held onto everyone I’d ever owned – some things do get better with age and a denim jacket is one of those things) but to be honest not much has changed with the style of the denim jacket over time. It’s a classic.

There’s always been a taboo surrounding ‘double denim’ …. but if styled correctly it can work!  Playing around with different proportions and shapes can help to pull this look off. Try a flared jean with a fitted cropped jacket and heels, or a slightly oversized jacket with a skinnier fit jean and converse …. You can also mix and match the washes of denim to create a more considered outfit.

The denim jacket is a great piece when it comes to layering. I love wearing mine underneath a coat with a breton or slogan tee peeking out. A hooded sweat top also works really well underneath.

Worn with a maxi skirt or dress is another great combination …. come the spring and summer months it’s one of my favourite outfits ….

…and when it comes to pairing your faithful denim jacket with sequins it really is a match made in heaven!

If you haven’t already got a denim jacket now is the perfect time to get one …. it will be one of the most useful purchases you make this season – believe me! There’s an abundance of fabulous styles around at the moment but I’ve narrowed it down to hopefully make things easier.
