Spotted!

I can definitely say that this dress will never have a home in my wardrobe, not because I don’t love it… it’s the little detail regarding the price tag, but that doesn’t stop me dreaming!

Stripes are my favourite, they always have been. I’m rather fond of a star print too, but just recently I’m finding myself drawn to polka dots.  We shouldn’t underestimate spots, they are classic and timeless …just like stripes!

I’ve noticed that spots are starting to creep into my wardrobe and I have to say I’m liking the effect. I keep reminding myself that this is how it all started with stripes, a piece here a piece there and before you know it. ….

There is a slight quirkiness to polka dots, they bring an element of fun to your outfit and have a very summery feel about them.

This season, polka dots are adorning floaty chiffons, ruffled georgettes through to structured, more tailored fabrics. Polka dots were one of the key prints to be paraded on the Spring Summer 17 catwalks from Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Gucci and Calvin Klein (to name but a few) and their presence is now highly visible throughout the high street.

So whether it is micro or macro dots that you choose there is plenty of choice this season. The trend isn’t confined just to clothing – it extends to footwear and accessories too.

The most classic combination when it comes to spots is black and white or navy and white. Paired with denim and a blazer a spotty shirt/blouse creates a classic, preppy look. When it comes to a feminine look spots work on floaty chiffon. Summer dresses draped with spots are a key look this season and they are not to be ignored.

If you are looking to inject some colour into your outfit then opt for a coloured shoe or sandal, these will work especially well against moncochromatic spots. If you’re unsure on which colour to go for then look no further than my previous blog post ‘Stepping out in colour’

I’ve compiled a list of what I consider to be some of the best polka dot buys this season. Some are more versatile and can work well with existing items in your wardrobe whilst others are more of a statement. Most can be worn in different ways by enhancing with a pop of colour or changing your choice of accessories.
