Ruffles … it’s fair to say they are one of the biggest trends to hit the high street this season. During the Spring Summer 2017 (SS17) catwalk shows Chloe, Loewe, Valentino, Alexander McQueen and Dolce and Gabbana to name but a few were making it quite clear that ruffles were big news. From romantic flowing ruffles with floral prints, through pinstripe diagonal ruffles to asymmetric ruffle hem lines it was a look that everyone was talking about. We all knew it was only at a matter of time before they emerged on the highstreet. With so many ruffle styles around it is a look that we can all buy into for spring and it is hard not to fall in love with the feminine shapes and frills on offer.
Whether the look has been translated into subtle frills or bold ruffles the highstreet has it covered – and no place more so than NEXT.
NEXT have recently launced their latest collection and with it comes a colourful range of items influenced by the designer catwalk shows. They have embraced the ruffle trend more than most. Whether it is translated in a casual way or a more elegant style there is something for every occasion.
Shoes have been trimmed with gorgeous suede ruffles and pleats in shades of blue and pink suede or bronzed metallic leather.

Classic items such as the crisp cotton shirt have been given a feminine feel with ruffle details and contrast coloured trims. Blouses drape beautifully with ruffles in floral prints and gingham checks. Sleeve detailing has not been overlooked with many items displaying flared and layered cuffs (also a big statement this season).

Broderie anglaise has been given a modern feel with ruffles and vibrant colour.

Basics have been updated to become ‘must haves’ with asymmetrical ruffle trims and hem lines.

Accessories have not been forgotten when it comes to embracing the ruffle trend. The easiest way to update your outfit is with a bag and NEXT have modernised a classic style with a simple ruffle detail. Simple styling gives this bag a classic, timeless appeal that is not overstated – looks great with any denim outfit!

Florals as well as ruffles are big news for the spring and summer season, as are long sleeve dresses – NEXT have combined these key trends to create the perfect transitional dress. This can be worn easily throughout spring and into the summer months.

At this time of the year knitwear is essential and NEXT have designed a great collection that is up to date in terms of colour and styling.

It is evident from what we’ve seen so far that ruffles are a trend that are going to be strong throughout the summer. As we enter the season of flowing dresses, floral and gingham check skirts and floaty blouses one thing is for sure … we’ll be seeing a lot more ruffles!
Happy shopping xx
Ooh so many gorgeous picks! I must admit that I can’t remember the last time I was in Next but going by this, they are really on the ball at the minute. I need that broderie anglaise top in my life!!
